East Ramapo and Clarkstown districts honored for music education

A survey by leading music and educational organizations places the Clarkstown and East Ramapo school districts among the nation's top 100 communities for music education.

Sponsored by the Carlsbad, Calif.-based NAMM Foundation, the annual "Best 100 Communities for Music Education in America" recognizes school districts for their unwavering commitment to school-based music programs.

"We are very honored to receive this award and be among the hundred best," said Gail Calisof, supervisor of music and art for the East Ramapo district. "We are proud of our music program, which allows every child the opportunity to study music."

It's not the first time either district has been recognized: Clarkstown has received the survey seven times since the survey began eight years ago.

Questions should be “specific, to the point or concise," he said, and “should put the candidate on the spot at some point."

On top of that, the Priorities groups in Iowa and New Hampshire have hired staff to serve as an “air traffic controller of bird-dog operations," as Mr.

DOCS-funded preschools to join funding protest

Department of Community Services (DOCS) funded preschools on the north coast will today take part in a state-wide rally to protest a lack of funding for early childhood education.

The lobby group Children's Choice says more than 60 preschools will join in protest at the fees New South Wales parents have to pay - the highest in the country.

Spokeswoman Bianca Urbina says that as a result, the state has the lowest preschool participation in the country.

She says the fact that the state is the country's lowest investor in preschool belies Premier Morris Iemma's claim to be aware of the importance of early education.

"We've got over 60 regional preschools participating today, plus several metropolitan preschools rallying in Sydney," she said.
